Orange legged spider
Does anyone know what sort of beastie this is? Isn't it weird! It's got a red thorax, orange legs and a huge white abdomen. It walked across our patio this morning, and none of us has seen a spider like it before, not in England, nor in Italy.
I'll put up the other photos of it on my flickr site.

It's probably a variation of the Yellow Sac Spider called a "Trachelas tranquillus" ... google it and you'll see what I mean. Be careful if you come across any more. They're "medically significant" meaning they're not "deadly" poisonous, but the do bite, it stings like hell, and they have necrotic poison meaning it kills the skin around the bite area like a brown recluse, aka Hobo Spider, just not as bad.
I don't think it's as scary as that. My step daughter in http://ejh2.blogspot.com/2008/06/spider-found.html suggests it's a woodlouse eating spider. That doesn't contradict your comment on Trachelas tranquillus. http://bugguide.net/node/view/26291 says it eats dead arthropods, and I suppose wood lice are arthropods.
