Ada Lovelace Day
Ada Lovelace blogging happened yesterday.
Adele Goldberg and Grace Hopper were important computer scientists who've been blogged.
At least five other people wrote about Emmy Noether. Here's one. I really like the Gin and Comment blog on Honorary Men.
I like it that some people wrote about their mothers as inspiration but isn't it wonderful that fathers are writing about their daughters programming? And there's two posts on grandmothers.
And there's a map of where we blogged at here.

Ada Lovelace day

Ada was a name that daughter's father and I had thought of calling her because I was a programmer, he taught me programming, we enjoyed controlling the computer, and Ada Lovelace was the world's first computer programmer, not a bloke, a woman. A geek as Brussels Girl Geek blogger writes here.
A thousand bloggers have pledged to blog about a woman in technology on March 24th. But who shall we pick? I don't know yet.

Blogging
The Today programme on radio 4 today had a discussion suggesting that blogging was passé & dying and that the cool thing to do now was twitter.
Twitter! No. Twittering isn't an alternative to blogging - it's different for different purposes. Blogging is for writing, and twittering is for - just that - twittering - nothing special while you faff about and say in a hundred words what you're faffing about it. Twittering is what an excited flock of stupid birds does. Suggesting twittering could replace blogging is like suggesting using a bicycle instead of a car.
Bah! Humbug!
